best Christmas presents ever!

My sister sent me a Christmas present...

and she wanted me to open it...

and it's the coolest thing ever!

nowhere to go

Still haven't found decent Italian food in San Antonio. And I'm not even comparing it to the awesome hole-in-the-wall eateries everywhere in downtown Gloucester anymore, now if it's as good as the Olive Garden, it'll be the best so far in San Antonio. (When we first moved here, we saw Olive Garden voted as one of the best Italian restaurants in San Antonio. We laughed then, but not anymore.)

Last week, we stopped into La Focaccia Italian Grill. It was so bad that I wouldn't even be writing about it, except I actually remembered to take pictures of all the food and stuff and it would be a waste.

It looked promising, hole-in-the-wall-y, but still nice:

Bread and olive oil came fast, all the service was fast:

The oysters rockafeller tasted more like my granny's mustard greens than oysters rockafeller, because of a surplus of smokey bacon overwhelming the dish:

Hubby got clams and linguini with white sauce, which was horrible. I couldn't place the spice used, but there was way too much of it...

And I knew I was ordering too ambitiously, but I couldn't resist my favorite: Stuffed Flounder - "filled with crab, scallops, and snapper served in a lemon butter sauce"!

It was really bad, the whole thing just tasted bland and wet, and there was rice mixed into the stuffing. Partly my fault, I should've ordered chicken parmesan or meatballs and spaghetti or something, but hey, it was on the menu... Note to self: Next time you find a bug in your water before ordering, just go ahead and leave.

driving

Yesterday was a good day. Driving and talking and stopping to eat. So warm and sunny in San Antonio, but colder and grayer and mistier the farther we drove. I love it to feel "like Christmas", but I hate it to be dark at 5:30!

Hubby drove and drove and I put my feet up and sang. I was pretending to be a cowgirl yesterday, with a flannel shirt and my cowboy boots - outside of my jeans even. But they came off in the car, and I rocked the striped socks instead.

I forgot to say this before but The Holiday is one of my favorite movies ever in the whole world. I don't even count it as a Christmas movie, not really. I particularly love Graham - note I did not saw Jude Law! I pretend like my hub would be just like him if he were widowed before instead of divorced - a sobbing, funny, adorable mess. (I have a cow and I sew!) I love this movie more every single time I watch it.

the birthday is over

I guess I have to admit that finally, my birthday is over. I think I stretched it out as long as I could. Everything we bought and ate for weeks was "my birthday," extending to the copy of Vogue I picked up at the checkout line yesterday.

The tiny carrot cake before:

and after:

I like letting everyone pick out there own type of ice cream. Although hub's always turns out better than mine...

Today, we are going to drive halfway across Texas to return the boys (and tonight we are going to take RockBand back out).

christmas tree

The boys love putting up our artificial Christmas tree, so we waited for them to help, making this officially the latest in December I've ever put up a tree. An emergency trip to Target to replace the burnt-out tree lights later, we had our tree decorated.

I love our colorful miss-mash and especially the plastic stars ornaments and the little disco balls:

The rest of the place already had little vignettes of Christmas spirit, and all day we've been drinking coffee with eggnog and listening to holiday music.

And, of course, our tiny blue tree:

Tonight we'll have some cake and ice cream to celebrate (late) my birthday and then watch Independence Day on the new blu-ray player (hubby's (early) Christmas present)!
