So, I had a little thought about the resolutions. I've been sucking so much on them, I thought it may be helpful to break them up into tiny doable parts. So, with that in mind, here's what I want to accomplish this month, resolution-wise:

Read: Finish the books that I've already started on: A Spy in the House of Love, I Am Ozzy, and Jude the Obscure.

Eat healthier: One piece of fresh fruit a day. Insanely doable.

Cook more: Make one new recipe. An actual recipe and not just throwing things together.

Play guitar better: Pick up the guitar one time and play it.

Like the way I look: Get a hair cut.

Exercise: Exercise one tiny time. Just do it.

Keep keeping the house clean: Spray for bugs, since winter's over and they are all starting to come out.

Wake up early: This one is super easy but I always forget: Set my alarm.

Diary/Blog and photos: Take a picture every time I put on a dress/skirt. Or red lipstick.

Improve day-to-day apartment living: Order that vacuum!

Black Swan

Hubby took me to see this movie last weekend, and honestly, I have mixed feelings about it. I feel it's the kind of movie that I should like, but I just don't. I hate to be a hater, and I wonder if my feelings were influenced by all the hype surrounding Black Swan.

There were a few beautiful images, and I've been a fan of Mila Kunis since That 70s Show (it's nice to see her getting some stardom) and who doesn't love Winona, but I could have done without and hour and a half of Natalie Portman looking on the verge of tears. It was not even scary (the trailer was!), just stressful to watch. I feel a bit let down, it could have been so much more.

I didn't want to even see it, this beautiful Vogue spread convinced me. You know, I think I expected the movie to look more like the editorial:

There's no hiding my love for photographic prints on clothing, and this galaxy print on is my favorite right now (on Kristen Dunst - who I also happen to love - in BlackBook):

It's by Christopher Kane, who is pretty much the king of photo prints, remember the gorilla collection?

And when I saw this spread:

of Gwyneth Paltrow in InStyle magazine, I decided that she has the perfect bangle look:

Just a perfect mix, and reminded me of my studded bangle from Crangi Family Project.

Pretty perfect fixed/messy hair too. And can I just say that this woman is 38, and is totally pulling off not dressing her age. She may be a new style icon...

big cats

When I was younger, my favorite thing about the zoo (besides the elephants) was the big cats exhibit, I could sit forever watching them pace up and down with such incredible beauty and grace and power.

I came across a Cartier ad in Vogue on Tuesday featuring this adorable little guy:

And ever since have been telling my husband that that's what I want for Christmas. And I'm only halfway joking with him. Then today the blogs had this for me:

Lily Donaldson holding a newborn on the cover of Harper's Bazaar. I think the universe is telling me I need one.

I can't believe this year is pretty much over again, and that it's time for another birthday again. In between all the excitement of Christmas, I almost forgot.

Winter has finally arrived in Texas, and by that I mean it's in the 60s during the day and 50s at night. It makes me want to start dressing for the holiday weather, and looking back over the pictures I've saved recently, that seems to means I want sexy, but ladylike glamour, and classic black-and-white-and-red color palettes (with a bit of fun: animal print, fur - faux! - and leather), and messy blonde hair with black eyeliner and bright red lips!

Annie Leibovitz

I've been watching Life Through A Lens a little bit at a time for the last few days, and it's amazing to see Annie Leibovitz' journey and influences. What an inspiration!

I'd never thought too much about her, knew she was famous but didn't quite realize the breath and reach of her work. I also didn't realize that she was the photographer behind two of my absolute favorite fashion spreads of all time...

I love her portraits, they are just so breathtakingly beautiful and well-executed.

Vogue, October 2010

This was actually one of my favorite Vogue spreads in a long time. I love that it feels unexpected, but sincere. I love the beautifully done bare feet and black hats with ball gowns in grassy fields. I also love that a few full pages were of photos with Carey's face hidden, it's just not your typical actress/celebrity magazine profile.

I actually liked the article on Carey Mulligan. She seems humble and interesting and independent. I just finished reading Never Let Me Go, and can't wait to see her in the movie.
